Although having spawned hyper-successful chart hits, the discography of pop star Anastacia is yet
consistently flashing the shadow of doubt, self assertion and the fear of being “Left Outside
Alone”. Within the performance Anastacia’s artist persona is dissociated into a vessel that carries
an implicit Anastacia-ness: A peculiarly awkward complex of self-victimisation, that seems to
diffuse into contemporary lives through media and trends.
Supplemented by poems that allude to tropes of pop-song-texting the work evokes the notion of early
2000s teenage angst while paying tribute to the empowering performance of Karaoke.
